I don't usually paint in a series but I've got geese on my mind after seeing so many still here for the winter. They are a beautiful bird when in the sky flying overhead in that gigantic V and bigger than you think when on the ground and you're up close.
This time of year the sunsets on the western horizon are an absolute blaze of orange, reds, and yellows. To try capture them is a challenge.
Now, this is one of the reasons people live in the midwest: gorgeous sunsets! Trying to capture the firey colors as the sun goes down is always a challenge but worth the try. And the colors in the grasses reflect the horizen so I tried to keep that as simple as possible.

This is my first post after a long vacation to see my family in Michigan and Ohio. Whenever possible I took photos and scketched farm scenes from one state to the next as we traveled across Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. Each state is peppered with old barns and homesteads.
This is a farm I've come back to again and again, each time trying to gain a new perspective, capture a time of day, or a unique atmosphere that makes painting it exciting. The sunset reflected off the barn really captures the mood.
